Previously I never really thought much about resume formats but one day I realized having periods of unemployment on my resume may be costing me interview opportunities. Knowing how to find good resume formats is the key.

In my case, I had a number of gaps in my employment history that I wanted to minimize and I also wanted to find a way to shift the focus of the resume to my strong skills. Lucky for me I discovered the functional format for a resume which keeps the focus on skills instead of timeframes. My situation is one that many people find themselves in. Many of these people get discouraged when they review their own resumes and wind up not applying for jobs they really want just because they feel their resume is not strong enough.

For years, I gave up on even applying for these dream jobs because I knew I would not get them until I realized there are different formats for resumes which could really help me. I was delighted to learn about the many resume formats available but first I had to spend some time contemplating which format was best for me. I did not allow my personal preferences to cloud this decision and instead relied one my ability to select a format for my resume which showed me in the most positive light. This involved some research. The first step was determining the number of formats available.

Then I took a close look at each format and the benefits it offered. After that I looked for any guidance I could find on when to use certain formats. Finally, I tried several different resume formats before committing to one. I created entire resumes each with a different format and reviewed these resumes critically. I looked at them as though I were an employer and tried to determine would I hire the person behind this resume. The process of selecting a format was certainly not an easy one but in the end I was satisfied with my decision. I chose the format that made me the most marketable.

I found out there was a functional resume format which does just what I was looking for. With so many people currently unemployed there are likely many people who are in the same position as me. Many of these people get discouraged when they review their own resumes and wind up not applying for jobs they really want just because they feel their resume is not strong enough.

For years, I gave up on even applying for these dream jobs because I knew I would not get them until I realized there are different formats for resumes which could really help me. The first thing I did when I realized there were many resume formats to choose from was to really think about which of these formats suited me best. I did not allow my personal preferences to cloud this decision and instead relied one my ability to select a format for my resume which showed me in the most positive light. I had to do a great deal of investigating to make this decision. The first important step was to figure out just how many formats were there.

After I compiled a list of formats, I looked for information on the advantages and disadvantages of each format. After that I looked for any guidance I could find on when to use certain formats. Finally, I tried several different resume formats before committing to one. I created entire resumes each with a different format and reviewed these resumes critically. After designing these resumes, I critiqued them objectively as though I was the potential employer and considered whether or not I would hire someone with this type of resume. It was certainly a tedious process but it really helped me to make my decision. I knew the format I had chosen would help me to stand out.

How To Write Your Career Objectives

– Commitment is great but you should also indicate what actions or directions you need to take in order to reach those goals.

– Don’t be afraid to state what you want to get out of a job, such as the experience of working in a particular professional area.

– It is always worth bearing in mind that the words you use in your statement may come across differently to the person reading it. Implying that an potential employers place of work is a ‘challenging environment’ may come across as more offensive or may show that you have a lack of understanding about the position.

Effectively State Your Responsibilities And Experience On Your CV

Usually you will detail your current job role first so be sure to use the present tense to emphasis that you are still currently doing this job.

List only those responsibilities which will help you in your new job, additionally, make sure that responsibilities you are listing are relevant for to your career objective. For example, if you are looking for a job that requires managing a team of people, focus on your development and participation in group projects instead of focusing on solitary activities such as office organization.

In terms of formatting, make sure that your responsibilities are listed in bullet points as this formatting is preferred to paragraphs on a resume because it is easier to review quickly. Employers won’t always read through your entire CV and will be easily dissuaded if it appears too lengthy. Finally, ensure that there are no spelling mistakes or formatting errors which could show that you lack attention to detail or have done a rushed job.
